Salem strives to be a church ministering to all generations; children, adults, and senior citizens. There is always work to be done in God’s kingdom and Salem wants to ensure that no one is left behind. Worship, Fellowship, Bible Learning, Prayer for, and being a blessing to others is at the heart of every ministry thing we do at Salem. The vast majority of our ministry is staffed by volunteers within the congregation. More about each area of ministry focus can be found below.

Children and Youth

Children are a gift from God and are our future generation.

  • Sunday School for our younger congregation is held every Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m., during the same time as the adult Sunday School gathering.
  • Salem values the importance of families worshipping together. The first Sunday of each month is Family Worship Day. Children stay upstairs during the preaching to hear God’s word with their parents.
  • Children’s church is held weekly (2nd – 4th/5th Sunday) during the latter half of the Morning Worship service so that our young ones can learn the truths of the Bible at their own level of understanding. Children’s church includes a bible lesson, lesson application, prayer, and activities as time permits.
  • Our Christian Education Committee actively plans activities and mission outreach programs for our younger congregation regularly throughout the year. Events include such things as Family Movie Night, donation drives for the Excelsior Springs Animal Shelter, Vacation Bible School, family picnics, and other activities centered around our families and youth.

Adults

  • Salem puts great value on not only preaching the message of salvation but in the discipleship of the believers. Morning worship services include a preaching message prepared by our pastor. Two options for Adult Bible study are offered to all who attend: Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 6:00 p.m. Bible study is open to all who wish to attend. In addition, an Adult Sunday school class is offered every Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.
  • Our Women’s Fellowship group is the missions outreach arm of Salem. Our women meet monthly to take care of business of the church as well as identify outreach opportunities for the church to get involved in. All attending women are welcome to join us. Our women meet the first Wednesday evening of each month to fellowship, conduct business, and have a short devotional. A sample of the projects our women get involved with are: sewing projects to assist one of the local nursing homes, collecting donations for our ongoing Watkins Mill camp project, hosting dinners for church events, and hosting/serving funeral dinners for the grieving families of our congregation that have gone on to be with the Lord.
  • Through the Women’s Fellowship, Salem has developed an active and alive Prayer line. Belief in the power of prayer is at the heart of Salem’s ministry. If you are in need of prayer, or would like us to pray for someone close to you, please message us on the contact page. Our prayer line goes out via phone to all who want to be on the Prayer line.
  • Salem men meet twice each month for fellowship and to work with the church board to take care of the business of the church. Men’s Breakfast is the 2nd Saturday of each month at a local restaurant in Lawson, MO. The men also meet on the first Wednesday evening of each month to fellowship and conduct church business.

Senior Citizens

  • Senior citizens have much to teach the younger generations and are an integral part of the ministry here at Salem. We welcome our Senior Citizen’s involvement in every aspect of the church ministry.
  • If you are a senior citizen in the Excelsior Springs or Lawson area who wants to attend our morning worship service and needs transportation, please let us know via the contact page. We would be glad to arrange to have one of our members pick you up and bring you to services.
  • Salem conducts a church service at the Excelsior Springs Convalescent Center on the third Sunday of each month. The service includes hymn singing, prayer, and a short devotional message.
  • Shut-in and hospital visitation ministry takes place every Tuesday and Wednesday with hospital visitation as needed. If you are a shut-in and would like a visit from our calling team, please don’t hesitate to let us know on our contact page.
  • For those who are unable to get out to attend the morning worship service, Salem records each morning worship service. A copy of the service is made available on CD for anyone who wishes to hear it. Let us know via the contact page if you would like information on getting a weekly recording of the message.
